Today, I visited Kevin O'Keefe's Real Lawyers Have Blogs. While there, I came across a post about Blogging vs. Podcasting. The charts and figures were interesting.
Just the other day, while brainstorming with a client, we were discussing whether they should podcast in addition to blogging. I instantly recommended that they focus energies on blogging, particularly since a major goal was to improve search engine positioning and driving potential clients to their firm.
Given these marketing objectives, and considering their target audience (personal injury and accident victims), podcasts weren't a smart approach for them. I can't imagine that enough of their potential clients would actually download a podcast or subscribe to a podcast to make it worth the while.
However, if your objective is to build credibility, retain and communicate with corporate clients, build brand or establish a particular lawyer as an expert, a podcast might be a great compliment. But I still don't think it should replace the BLAWG!
I'd be interested to hear comments from my readers. Particularly in regards to situations where podcasting might be a great medium for communicating with clients.
Happy Marketing!
